Our special woodland is part of a small family farm on the edge of Loch Lomond National Park.
The woodland was planted in 1991 with a mixture of broadleaves and conifers, it is a productive woodland with Ash trees, which will be felled in 25 years for firewood (50 years from planting). This will leave a main crop of oak trees which will take another 220 years to reach maturity.
In 2014, Mr Hendry (the farmer), grandfather to six young children who live in different parts of the UK, had the idea that he wanted to create a special place for his grandchildren to visit. At a family get together he realised that the way to do this would be to bring Santa Claus to the woodland. So in July 2014 he decided to make it a reality and he set to work!
Thinking that local children would also enjoy the experience “Santa’s Woodland Experience” was created in September 2014 and Santa arrived at the end of November!
