Frequently Asked Questions

Woodland Experience FAQs:

What Woodland Experiences Do You Offer?

Currently we offer three experiences, our Woodland Fairy Experience,  Woodland Light Experience and Santa’s Woodland Experience, all of which take place within our woodland at North Ballochruin Farm, Balfron Station, G63 0LE.

Woodland Fairy Experience – Let your imaginations run free and come for a walk through our woodland and visit our fairy village. Our opening weekend will be Easter weekend 2018 – we will be open on the 30th of March for 4 days.

Woodland Light Experience is an outdoor light show, which takes place in November each year.

Experience our natural woodland as never before.  The trees and dark autumn skies are the natural backdrop to a magical theatre of light and colour professionally produced by award-winning NL Productions.

Entering it’s 4th year our Woodland Light Experience is within a short drive from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth, the theme for 2018 is yet to be announced.  Suitable for the entire family, both adults and children will be in awe of the beautiful lighting effects and captivating projections  featuring the natural landscape, light and water.

There is 1.3km of path, meandering through 14 acres of woodland. A gentle stroll for most will take in the region of 45 minutes, with others perhaps taking 60 minutes.

*please note that although we have woodland roads, this is a walk through a woodland and so care must be taken at all times.

Santa’s Woodland Experience is a journey on our tractor trailer to find Santa’s woodland home, Once you have reached the destination there will be a short walk for all to get to the cabin and meet Santa himself.

For 2018 our Santa’s Woodland Experience will open on Friday November 30th until Christmas Eve.

This experience is a group experience and lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Tickets must be booked in advance.  Please check the website or facebook page for notification on when tickets are going on sale.

How Do I Make a Booking?

Booking in advance is required for our Santa’s Woodland Experience. For our Woodland Light Experience and Fairy Experience we strongly advise booking although there will be a limited amount of tickets available on the door each day.

Tickets are sold in advance of our events. To make a booking for any experience, please call 01360 752 052 or please visit Woodland Experiences booking page.

Please note that all ticket purchases will incur a global £1 transaction fee.  For telephone bookings this covers the cost of providing box office staff to serve you in person.  For online tickets this goes towards the online booking system currently used.

When do i receive my tickets?

All our experiences are ticketless and so we would ask you bring along a copy of your order confirmation on the day/night – this can either be printed out or shown on your phone. This confirmation is sent out automatically upon payment if you book online and within 14 days if you book over the phone. Please see question below if you have not received your confirmation email.

I booked online but haven’t got my confirmation email.

When you book online your confirmation email is sent out immediately and automatically so if you do not receive it we would ask you first to check your junk folder as they can often end up in there. If you still can’t find it please email info@woodlandexperiences.co.uk with the subject – “missing confirmation” and tell us the following information:

  1. -Name
  2. -Email address used to book
  3. – Order number (not essential but will appear on your worldpay email)
  4. -Date and time booked for

We will then be able to see if there were any typo’s that would have caused an error. If there are not we will look to send your confirmation manually and that will more than likely solve the issue.

Is There Parking Available?

All parking is on-site, and there is no charge for parking.

Can I reach you by public transport?

We are in quite a rural location and are roughly 2 miles from the nearest villages. You can get a bus to the village of Balfron or to Killearn but due to a lack of pavements and distance we would highly recommend pre-arranging a taxi from that point.

During our light show we have shuttle buses that operate on certain nights and we hope to continue this and hopefully become more accessible by public transport but this is very much a new link between us and First Bus.

Is it suitable for children?

All of our Woodland Experiences are suitable for children.

Woodland Light Experience

We love children, and warmly welcome them to our event. The path is mainly level stone and gravel, therefore a robust pushchair suitable for countryside terrain would be advised for younger children.
To keep them safe, and to prevent little people getting lost in the woods, we ask that children remain in the company of an adult, and properly supervised at all times.
There are electrical cables for the lighting, moving tractors ferrying visitors and natural obstacles such as ditches. These have been carefully placed to be outwith the reach of the public behind roped-off areas. With safety in mind, we ask you to ensure that children are not allowed to stray from the paths, enter roped-off boundaries or wander into display areas to touch the lights or creatures they may spot

Santa’s Woodland Experience

This experience is for the child in everybody.

How long will our experience last?

Woodland Fairy Experience

Our woodland opens at 10am until 4:30pm (last entry at 4pm), you can stay as long as you wish 🙂

Woodland Light Experience

There is 1.3km of path, meandering through 14 acres of woodland. A gentle stroll for most will take in the region of 45 minutes, with others perhaps taking 60 minutes. However, it is not a conveyor belt, and visitors can take as long as they like to enjoy the stunning visuals

Santa’s Woodland Experience

This will last 30 minutes

There will be our small gift shop, teas/coffee and hot food* available before and after both experiences, in our booking shed where you can continue your experience for as long as you wish.

*Hot food is only available at our Woodland Light Experience and Santa’s Woodland Experience

What Should I Wear?

Our experiences are outdoor and so we recommend you wrap up warm (with gloves, hats and warm layers for our night time experiences).  Be prepared with a waterproof jacket and ensure your footwear is suitable for cold weather and walking the distance on gravel tracks. Being comfortable and warm will make the experience altogether more enjoyable.

Will the weather affect my experience?

Woodland Light Experience

The addition of weather simply intensifies the atmosphere with the lighting effects enhanced by cold mists and drizzle, and gusting wind animating the whole display.

Santa’s Woodland Experience

As long as you are wrapped up in appropriate outdoor clothing, the weather should not affect your experience too much. For the main you will be under cover, whether on trailer or in cabin.  There is a short walk through trees but again if suitably dressed any bad weather s should not dampen any spirits.
Our events will go ahead in all weathers, unless the conditions are deemed to be unsafe (e.g. Met Office Severe Weather Warnings issued for electrical storms or gale force winds). Snow is a beautiful addition and the show will go ahead. If there is extreme weather and you are unsure, please phone before traveling

Will there be food or drinks available?

Woodland Fairy Experience

Tea/Coffee and biscuits are included with your admission.  A small selection of juice and crisp snacks are available to purchase.

Woodland Light Experience & Santa’s Woodland Experience

To keep chills at bay, there will a stand at the entrance serving some rather famous gourmet meat pies. Acclaimed award-winning local butcher T & R Skinner of the Extraordinary Sausage Co. are currently planning the menu, but we expect their top quality, melt-in-the-mouth pies – made with locally sourced meat – to be a favourite with visitors.

Here at Woodland Experiences, we just love animals but with all the cables and lighting equipment set up around the roadways, it is just too dangerous.
